Country Roads

The photos in this post were taken in the hollows surrounding Bolt Mountain. The one directly above, beside the truck photo, was taken on the road that runs by Peachtree Falls. That photo was actually taken in the Winter. With all the varieties of evergreen it is hard to determine the season by looking at the photo. The photo with the truck I took when my dog Sam and I went for a Sunday drive.

There is something to be said about roads that disapear in the distance ahead. They almost seem to represent the journey of life…you can see the path your on…you can see a bit up the road…but you never realy know where it leads till you actually follow it…Each one leading to a different experience a different destination.
I think I may be a bit tired as well and looking WAY to much into your “Country Roads” either way I still love the pics of them :)

Thanx Morgan for the comment and the smile it caused… I never would have looked at these photos that way. I’m glad you did… kind of reveals them in a whole new light.

I always love pictures of roads like these. There’s something about walking down them, particularly in the fall, that always makes me feel at peace.

My Aunt and Uncle have a summer home on a small lake in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Many of the roads around there are similar to the ones in your pictures. I’ve had some of my most profound thoughts and most peaceful moments on roads like these.

I know exactly what you mean Kristine. I like walking these quiet roads for the peacefulness. Maybe contemplating life’s little mysteries or nothing at all.

Like you my favorite time is in the fall because then you have the smell of the leaves to add to the allure of the old roads.

Pictures of woodland roads are my favorite and so are pictures of long winding stairs photographed from the bottom. I never really thought about it why such pictures have this appeal to me. Maybe it’s because they remind me of lives journey. Like life you can see the road ahead for some way but then there is a bend and you can’t see what’s ahead. Looking at these pictures, and the journey of life, I keep asking myself; “What’s around the next bend?” Because I can’t see it, these pictures also have something mysterious about them, because we keep wondering.

Needless to say I am very surprised at the thought provoking responses to these photos. They probably don’t effect me the same way because I know what is around the bend in each one thus taking away the mystery. I’m glad that they had the opposite effect on other viewers.

Thanx for your comment Othmar.
